Landon’s Story

Calming Anxiety

Landon, age 62, had a traumatic childhood with an alcoholic, schizophrenic father who died when Landon was 19. His mother was enormously over-protective, restricting and limiting his life experiences. During his young adult years Landon experienced two muggings in which he was severely beaten. He also suffered a heart attack at age 53.

Landon had already spent years in therapy, which helped him to begin speaking up for himself, asking for what he needed, and becoming more independent. Yet he still did not feel like a strong, adult man: he felt like a little boy unable to fully contribute to resolving daily life challenges in partnership with his wife. Landon wanted to reduce his anger and resentment, be comfortable engaging with people within his family and with the general public, and provide his wife with emotional support.

Because of Landon’s ingrained and longstanding emotional patterns, we utilized the emotional release techniques of the primitive reflexes, the energy re-balancing techniques of Touch for Health, and the gentle hands-on body realignment methods of Edu-K to release locked emotions by loosening and repositioning tightly held muscles. We also incorporated Brain Gym® and Vision Gym movements into the sessions to release decades of entrenched neural patterning. The unique thing about integrative movement therapy is that once the re-patterning techniques are applied, the long-standing neural patterns can be “undone” and new patterns established, regardless of how long it has been.

After only two sessions, Landon said he experienced a “new normal,” in which he felt much more relaxed overall and more comfortable with people. After three sessions, Landon went to visit relatives from whom he typically withdrew and avoided interaction. He felt no nervousness or anxiety and said he didn’t feel “like hiding out in the corner” but rather enjoyed himself helping with the kitchen cleanup.  He participated in family activities and talked with groups of people, versus the one-to-one interactions to which he typically limited himself. He also hadn’t been afraid of flying for the first time in years. He said, “It’s a whole different life! Incredible!”

We completed four sessions before Landon returned home to another state. He left feeling amazed that in addition to the emotional changes he experienced, he had changed physically, too. His physical balance was much better, he felt “more stable while walking,” his body was more fluid in its movements, and his back pain had reduced. Overall, he was physically much more comfortable.

Christina’s Note

Landon experienced significant physical changes from the Whole Brain Movement therapy because emotional stress can cause tremendous strain on the body: tightening the muscles, clenching and holding oneself in a defensive posture on an unconscious level, and restricting blood flow and oxygen levels. These all release when whole brain functioning is restored. Emotional patterns of stress often cannot be separated from physical ailments.
